Escaping the Uncanny Valley
Personal Branding Project
2020
“Escaping the Uncanny Valley” is a branding initiative I developed to support newly diagnosed autistic adults by addressing the often-overlooked experience of masking and mimicking social behaviors—a phenomenon that can feel akin to a robot imitating a human. Inspired by the complex reality of a high-functioning autistic adult, the project explores the emotional and social challenges behind this ‘uncanny valley’ effect. The design solution includes a comprehensive branding package and an online community platform aimed at raising awareness of lesser-known autism traits, challenging harmful stereotypes, and destigmatizing the condition. This project was completed as my major work during university studies, combining illustration and thoughtful user-centered design to create an empathetic and empowering resource for the autistic community.
